POSITION SUMMARY
The Mountain Safety Manager is tasked with staffing a team of both paid and volunteer members whose responsibility is to enhance skier and rider safety by establishing a structured On-Mountain Safety Team with a visible presence, ensuring effective engagement and accident prevention. The Mountain Safety Team Manager promotes a culture of safety for guests and employees including ski and snowboard safety enforcement of "The Responsibility Code", maintaining proper safety equipment and signage, and facilitates correction of safety problems. The Mountain Safety Team Manager will work with other departments to resolve safety concerns, and specifically with Ski Patrol in relation to conflict resolution and disciplinary actions. The Mountain Safety Manager must have the ability to provide leadership, training and supervision to all members; and understand and commitment to safety, positive employee experience and positive guest experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Oversees all aspects of the Steamboat Mountain Safety Team, including but not limited to staffing, training, and scheduling.Develop and oversee department budget including labor, supplies and capital.Plan and execute a pre-season orientation.Communicate with the Mountain Safety Staff, as needed, to keep the crew aware about events, training, standards and expectations.Brainstorm improvements and innovations for the team that may help bolster the guest and employee experience.Track Mountain Safety Volunteer Hours for Human Resources reporting.Monitor the day-to-day performance of crew members to maintain the highest level of guest welfare and employee satisfaction.Participate in regular meetings with management to discuss operational needs and improvements.Sets the example of working cooperatively and positively with others including co-workers, other departments, guests and other partners.Support supervisors in conducting and overseeing written performance appraisals at the end of the season for all crew members. Assist with disciplinary actions and terminations as needed.Review daily logs and communicate to any other needed departments any noted deficiencies in compliance with the requirements of regulatory agencies.Contribute to and execute improvements and innovations to ensure progress in guest and employee experience, including but not limited to resort signage, guest experience standards.Collect and document necessary paperwork.Assist with Work Comp employees, as needed, to ensure correct communication of processes, and support employees as needed.Complete all the required company trainings.Maintain a friendly, congenial, and helpful attitude while effectively dealing with the guests and other employees.Report unsafe conditions regarding equipment and area of work, or elsewhere in the area.Assist lift operation and guest services and marketing in communicating to our skiing guests any lift / terrain openings or closings.Handle any guest or employee complaint or problem in a professional manner.Coordinate and ensure the adherence to employee recognition programs.Other duties as assignedREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 5 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Demonstrated progression of increasing responsibilityProven ability at conflict resolutionAbility to interact and maintain positive relationships with guests, co-workers and management consistent with SSRC's Service Excellence standards.The skills, knowledge and ability to organize, motivate, train and evaluate the performance of the group to the highest possible level.Basic knowledge of CPR and First Aid.Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, OutlookStrong communications skills.Financial budgeting skillsMust be able to clearly speak and understand the English language.Ability to solve problems in a highly effective manner and maintain positive relationships with guests and staff, including management, subordinates and co-workers.Must meet SSRC minimum driving standards and have valid driver's license; a successful motor vehicle record background check is required.EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Associates degree or equivalent requiredPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be a minimum of 18 years of ageMust be able to hear clearly with or without a hearing device.Proficiency in skiing or riding at an expert level.This position requires physical strength to help evacuate a lift, lift patients, ski any terrain, mitigate avalanche hazards, perform first aid on sick and injured guests, etc.Work is performed in a mountainous winter environment in varying weather conditions.Must be able to operate a snowmobile in a safe manner.Must be an expert level skier.Must be able to lift 30 lbs.The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
