Job Summary
Performs journeyman level construction, installation, alteration, and repair of sheetmetal products and equipment in accordance with blueprints, drawings, and work orders and inspects, cleans, and repairs roofs and roof flashings.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs journeyman level construction, installation, alteration or repair of sheetmetal products and equipment such as ducts and hoods for heating, air-conditioning, and exhaust systems through the use of blueprints, drawings, and work orders.
- Determines type, gauge, and amount of material required for performance of work. Assembles ducts, hoods, and other sheetmetal products; solders and bolts connections; applies insulation as required; and inspects assemblies and installation for conformance with specifications.
- Performs journeyman level roofing repair work on a variety of roofing materials and forms, assembles, installs, and inspects gutters, downspouts, flashing, and other sheetmetal roofing materials.
- Coordinates and participates in the setting up and operating of equipment such as power saws, drill presses, hand and power shears, pan and box brakes, lock-formers, cleat benders, and rollers to cut, punch, thread, and form sheetmetal.
- Performs operational checks of ducts and other sheetmetal installations to determine corrective action to be taken to include maintenance and repair.
- Follows a predetermined schedule of preventive maintenance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Associates degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Drivers License
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Utilizes drills, punches, snips, shears, rollers, sheetmetal brakes, trowels, forming mechanism, soldering irons, rulers and tapes, back-pack blowers, ladders, scaffolds, squares, dividers, crimpers, calculator, and University vehicle. Also uses standard hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, and pliers.Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
