Starting Wage DOE : $38.96 - 48.71

Nursing Professional Development Specialist (NPDS) has knowledge and skills in adult learning principles, nursing career development, program development and management, continuing education, and leadership. NPDS works with a wide range of competencies, learning needs, and tiered academically prepared nurses across all practice settings and environments of care. Partner with healthcare providers and nurse leaders to ensure a safe, effective and efficient environment of care. Involved in project management, continuing education and return on investment, leadership and relationship-building, research and evidence-based practice implementation, cybergogy (learning through technology), and nursing practice excellence. Develops objectives, policies, and procedures for education and competencies for all new nurse hires and employed nurses in the field of oncology at Billings Clinic (Cancer Center, ICC).Works with nursing schools to create a pipeline of future oncology nurses by creating rotations in outpatient and inpatient settings with a variety of experiences and curriculum to provide adequate exposure to oncology nursing. Upholds the mission, vision, and values of the Billings Clinic Cancer Center as well as the mission, vision, and values of Billings Clinic. Maintains the standards, customer relations, and practice in the oncology nursing service line. Accountabilities include : development of Oncology Nursing Resources Pool, professional development of oncology nurses hired in any department of the Cancer Center, including ICC, as well as oncology nurses hired for our owned sites. Works with Cancer Center Director and Managers on quality of services; short and long range planning to achieve goals and objectives within the profession of oncology nursing at Billings Clinic. Oncology Nursing Professional Specialist role requires frequent in-person and virtual trainings to ensure quality, safety, and patient experience expectations are met as well as Cancer Center accreditation standards. The Oncology Nursing Professional Specialist is required to attend all mandatory accreditation meetings per standards for said accreditations.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develops preceptors and then introduces new employee to their assigned preceptor(s). Meets with preceptor and preceptee regularly to assess progress and comfort in the new position, evaluates competencies, determines what training, support, and resources needed to be successful.
  • In collaboration with the director and department managers, develops and implements short and long range plans for new graduate nurses to be onboarded to a department within the Cancer Center / ICC and / or the Oncology Nursing Resource Pool
  • In collaboration with the director and department managers, develops and implements short and long range plans for continued education, competencies, and ONS certification / maintenance requirements for the Cancer Center / ICC.
  • Collaborates with Nursing Schools to arrange student opportunities in the Cancer Center / ICC and owned sites outside of Billings.
  • Works with Cancer Center director dyad in the overall marketing, program development, and service priorities.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains a realistic, cost-effective annual budget with Director for this program.
  • Demonstrates effective problem solving skills.
  • Practices process improvement principles to assess and improve the quality of oncology nursing care provided within the Cancer Center. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental, and outside agency safety standards relevant to job performance for department..
  • Adheres to administrative policies and procedures relating to human resource management.
  • Demonstrates and encourages an ethic of open communication and teamwork throughout the

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • 4 Year / Bachelors Degree BSN required, at hire
  • Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years experience as an oncology nurse
  • Certifications and Licenses

  • OCN required within 6 months of hire
