OpenShift Cloud Engineer

Contract Length : 6 months + potential extension

Location : Dallas, Texas - Hybrid (3 days onsite downtown Dallas)

Our client is looking for an experienced Cloud Platform Engineer to join their team in supporting and evolving their Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) environments. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer with deep experience in OpenShift, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure who thrives in fast-paced, modern DevOps environments. In this position, you'll work closely with development and infrastructure teams to modernize applications, automate deployments, and ensure scalable, resilient cloud-native operations.

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience administering Red Hat OpenShift on VMs, bare metal, and ROSA
  • Experience with OpenShift v4.15+ and associated ecosystem tools (Data Foundation, Platform Plus)
  • Solid knowledge of Ceph storage administration
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or IBM Cloud environments
  • Expertise in Linux Containers (Docker) and Kubernetes, including deployment of microservices architectures
  • Experience migrating and refactoring legacy apps for containerized environments
  • Familiarity with application stacks including Java, JBoss, nginx, and Node.js
  • Strong scripting and automation experience (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Bash, etc.)
  • Hands-on with CI / CD tools like GitLab, Jenkins, Chef, or similar
  • Solid understanding of DevOps principles and deployment pipelines
  • Working knowledge of networking concepts (firewalls, protocols, load balancers)
  • Experience with VMware (vCenter, vRA, vRO)
  • Background in bare metal OpenShift deployments
  • Knowledge of SSL certificate management
  • Experience working within Agile environments (Kanban, sprints, stand-ups)
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Dynatrace, QRadar)
  • Ability to stay current on emerging technologies and container platform trends
  • Strong communication skills - both verbal and written - especially when conveying complex technical topics
  • Willingness to document, share knowledge, and mentor team members

Key Responsibilities :

  • Engineer and support enterprise-grade OpenShift platforms across multiple environments
  • Lead efforts to migrate applications to containerized and cloud-native platforms
  • Implement automated infrastructure deployments and CI / CD pipelines
  • Collaborate across development, security, and infrastructure teams to ensure stability and scalability of the platform
  • Ensure platform health through proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization
  • Drive best practices in DevOps, automation, and infrastructure as code (IaC)
  • Maintain detailed documentation and support onboarding and training efforts for team members
  • Contribute to strategic decisions around container orchestration, cloud architecture, and platform enhancements
