Michael Baker International is seeking a highly motivated Senior Bridge Technical Manager to join our team. This position will report through the Chicago, IL office, with the option of working remotely, and will be focused on the project design and management. The Senior Bridge Technical Manager is a key role for an established industry leader and technical specialist who can advance the growth of Michael Baker in Illinois and contribute to projects across the bridge practice. Under the guidance of the Bridge Design Department Manager, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to pursue, lead, manage and perform bridge engineering services on a variety of high visibility projects.

Responsibilities Provide technical and management expertise and guidance to staff; provide technical reassurance to Michael Baker clients and stakeholders.

Coordinates tasks and project schedules

Communicates with clients regarding project issues, schedules, and budgets

Provide technical advisory services to clients within the area of subject matter expertise.

Maintain awareness of relevant technical developments and seek opportunities to develop a professional profile and thought leadership through presentations at relevant conferences / meetings and active participation in technical committees for industry organizations

Leads or assists with proposal production and implementing marketing initiatives

May be responsible for teaching educational courses

May serve as the project ‘task manager’ responsible for bridge engineering services or project manager, leading multi-disciplinary projects and client coordination.

Performs detailed technical peer reviews

Responsible for maintaining technical knowledge through completion of various training initiatives; attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, attending in-house systems / management training

Staff management and mentoring

Verifying that quality standards and project deadlines are met

Maintaining client satisfaction

Oversight of project safety Health and Safety Plan

Direct coordination with the client’s Project Representatives

Providing regular status reports to Bridge Design Department Manager

Professional Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field; Master’s Degree is a plus

20+ years of related experience

Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license and Structural Engineer (S. E.)

Experience with bridge maintenance and repair policies and procedures

Possess excellent client skills and ability to enhance and develop solid client relationships

Involvement with applicable industry and professional organizations

Ability to work independently and within a team setting to support related projects and assignments

Ability to assist in developing strategic approaches and concepts

Possess strong written and verbal communication skills

Possess a valid driver’s license

Excellent English language skills, written and verbal.

Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel) etc., and familiarity and experience with computer-aided bridge design and analysis tools.

Compensation The approximate compensation range for this position is $150,065 to $234,391. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
