APTU Counselor — Baystate Health, a nationally recognized leader in healthcare quality and safety, is seeking a Counselor to join our APTU unit consisting of unit counselors, a psychiatrist, a physician assistant, psychiatric nurses, psychiatric social workers and master's prepared specialists, occupational and recreational therapists.

- Part-time 24 hours
- Night shift 7 : 30pm-7 : 00am (12-hour shifts) with variable days scheduled for the needs of the department
- Every other weekend and holiday rotation required

Summary
Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, performs a wide variety of duties involving patient management, therapeutic interaction, and physical care of patients admitted to the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit. The incumbent is expected to adhere to system and department compliance policies and all applicable laws and regulations. This description covers the essential functions of the position. The incumbent is expected to perform other similar and related duties as assigned. Management reserves the right to change or add to the job responsibilities at any time.
Job Responsibilities
Participates in a multidisciplinary team approach to patient care. Reviews admission and progress notes to understand patients. Collaborates with the team to evaluate patients, plan therapy, and develop treatment goals. Reports observations and provides input in treatment plans. Assists team members in providing care and follows through with team decisions. Welcomes new staff and orients them to the department.Provides a safe environment. Conducts daily safety checks, intervenes during crises, and authorizes restraints and seclusions as needed. Monitors groups, time-aways, and restraints. Reports hazards immediately. Adheres to behavior management principles including Collaborative Problem Solving.Documents patient mental status, social behavior, and progress toward goals daily. Maintains necessary EMR documentation per policy.Provides a therapeutic milieu. Assesses mental status, social and symptomatic behavior, and progress toward goals daily. Counsels patients with empathy, collaborates on plans of care, assists with ADL needs, and provides patient education. Co-facilitates group therapy and develops psycho-educational groups.Demonstrates accountability for personal and professional growth. Attends mandatory in-services and collaborates with supervisors to identify professional goals.Demonstrates effective use of behavior management principles and Collaborative Problem Solving. Develops and implements special programming. Assists coworkers as needed.Demonstrates competency for one-to-one observation of patients as required.Must complete department-specified de-escalation training within 30 days of hire.You Belong At Baystate
