Aquinas Consulting has an immediate need to fill an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Leader job at a growing manufacturer of specialty chemicals for the Food Flavors & Fragrance industry located in the Middletown, NY area.

This is a growth position for an individual with EHS experience who is seeking to be trained and taught to become an EHS Manager.

Position Overview :

Responsible for accident prevention, fire protection and safe facility operations. Maintain compliance with all federal, state and local laws regarding air quality, wastewater, storm water and hazardous waste regulations, and other duties as determined.

Environmental Health & Safety Job responsibilities :

  • Maintain and update OSHA manual, as required. Provide new employees with OSHA manual and perform initial training.
  • Fill out accident reports and perform incident investigations. Maintain OSHA log of work-related injuries. Fill out yearly summary of work-related injuries.
  • Responsible for generating, maintaining and updating Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for the facility.
  • Implement Chemical Hygiene Plan, Emergency and Fire prevention plans. Conduct fire drills.
  • Check fire extinguishers, periodically.
  • Conduct air sampling as required. Survey workplace for over exposure potential.
  • Perform fork truck training and certify employees.
  • Implement Hot Work Permit program. Train authorized signers.
  • Conduct quarterly facility safety inspections. Discuss recommendations with area supervisors.
  • Ensure work orders are issued for corrective action.
  • Fill out all documentation for monthly waste pick-ups and send copies of manifests to appropriate regulatory agencies. Ensure that manifest files are complete and up to date.
  • Update profiles of existing waste streams and complete profiles for new waste streams.
  • Set up and implement a waste minimization program.
  • Ensure that all air permits are current for all operating equipment File air permits for new.

  • Ensure compliance with State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) requirements and update permits, as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all DOT, IMO and IATA regulations. Procure required training for
  • shipping and receiving employees and perform required annual audit.
  • Ensure compliance with Storm Water Pollution Prevention (SPP) regulations.
  • Develop spill response program, ensure that required spill materials are in stock.
  • Complete Toxic Chemical Release Inventory Reporting, as required.
  • Ensure compliance with Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) regulations.
  • Perform quarterly Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) audits.
  • Meet with OSHA, DEC, DEA, Federal, State or Local inspectors, etc., and escort them throughout the facility during inspections and audits.

Requirements :

  • AS or BS Degree in Environmental, Workplace Safety, Workplace Health or a related field is desired. Commensurate experience will be considered.
  • 3+ years of experience in EHS or a related field is required.
  • Must have excellent communication and computer skills as well as top notch organizational skills.
  • Must be open to learn, grow and develop new skills and take on new responsibilities.
