About The Position

Job Title : Emergency Department Registered Nurse

Shift : Day / Night / Holiday rotation - 3x12s + 2 On-Call shifts per 4 weeks

Hours per Shift : 12 hours

Experience : Two years acute hospital experience as an RN, one year ED hospital experience as an RN

License : Current RN Licensure

Certifications : BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke Certification (Must be AHA or RQI)

Must-Have : Ability to work through January; no guaranteed time off on the three major holidays.

Description :

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families.

The ED RN assesses patient needs, identifies urgent or emergent care priorities, and collaboratively provides direct care.

The ED RN applies appropriate interventions and evaluates patient progress.

The ED RN evidences skill in the use of various invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments, and therapeutic interventions appropriate to manage life-threatening and routine emergency situations.

The ED RN utilizes the principles of relationship-based care to alleviate anxiety, provide information, and address pain, discomfort, and safety.

The ED RN assesses the physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age groups, their families, and support systems as appropriate.

The ED RN connects with patients and families during triage, identifying the initial management of patients of all age groups and assigning priority of care in accordance with Triage Standards.

The ED RN establishes rapport with patients and families, addressing comfort needs, listening carefully, assessing nonverbal communication, and providing frequent updates.

The ED RN conducts primary assessment of critical need, detects and documents any major deviations from norms for all age groups within acceptable time frames, and correctly identifies necessary steps and interventions required.

The ED RN uses direct observation, patient / family interviews, and available data to conduct secondary assessments.

The ED RN identifies contributing factors, health history, and events or activities preceding the emergent health event.

The ED RN assesses the psychosocial needs of each individual, documenting and reporting any suspicion of domestic violence or abuse.

The ED RN reassesses the patient to identify response to treatment and / or changes in condition and responds appropriately.

The ED RN encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to accomplish the best possible patient outcome.

The ED RN teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks and interventions consistent with individual education, training, and scope of practice.

The ED RN understands the responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies.

The ED RN prepares patients, parents, or families for diagnostic procedures and treatments.

The ED RN makes appropriate referrals for post-emergency care.

The ED RN teaches patients what is needed to continue care and healing at home.

The ED RN assesses patient / family learning styles and structures sessions to maximize understanding.

The ED RN asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in education and discharge instructions.

The ED RN seeks to understand what is most important to the patient and family, acknowledging that they are the central focus of all care and services.

The ED RN embraces the importance of creating a Healing Environment as a key element of professional nursing practice.

The ED RN keeps patients and significant others informed of the process of care.

The ED RN anticipates patient / family needs and maintains awareness of the patient's condition throughout the visit.

The ED RN updates patient communication throughout the stay.
