Recording And Licensing Technician

This position is hybrid after training and successfully completing the probationary period.

The Recording Division receives, indexes, and records public documents such as deeds, maps, mortgage materials, easements, powers of attorney, liens, and military discharge papers. We process anywhere from 100,000 to 200,000 public documents each year, depending on market conditions. We collect excise tax payments on the sale of real property.

The Licensing Division provides auto and boat title services such as tab renewals, trip permits, license plate replacement, and more. Want to get married in Pierce County? That's us. Need a pet license in unincorporated Pierce County? That's us, too. We manage licensing for certain businesses in unincorporated Pierce County, and we staff a full-time, full-service passport office.

How to be Successful in the Role :

We are looking for a self-motivated person who has cash handling experience, thrives on variety, loves serving customers and has the ability to quickly interpret and apply RCW and WAC. Someone who has a love of learning and can retain and apply information quickly and accurately will excel in this role. Predictable and reliable attendance is a must as our customers depend on us to be there for services.

The Recording and Licensing Technician is a series position with opportunity to learn, cross-train, and grow. Core Daily Responsibilities :

  • Interpret and apply the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and any Washington Administrative Code (WAC) as it applies to the Recording and Licensing Division.
  • Assist and resolve technical problems and questions with other staff members.
  • Investigate and resolve customer questions, problems, and complaints.
  • Assist in the training of lower-level staff.
  • Prepare daily deposits and other financial documents as needed and forward appropriate documentation and funds to various County and State agencies.

Qualifications :

  • Additional education or experience which clearly indicates the ability to perform the essential functions of this position may substitute on a year for year basis.
  • Three years of clerical or customer service experience, that includes two years with cashiering experience.
  • Additional Licensing Unit requirement : Certified Vehicle Licensing Representative.

  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Recording Unit : Clerical experience in real estate, banking, excise tax collection, or loan processing.
