Job Description

POSITION : HVAC Technician

DEPARTMENT : Facilities

DIVISION : Administrative Services

HOURS : Full-Time, 40 hours per week

Salary information : $27 to $30 / hr.

General Description :

Primary :

Under the direction of Facilities Lead Engineer, The HVAC technician will, inspect, maintain, repair or install heating, ventilating, cooling and refrigeration equipment normally required of the trade of residential, commercial, and industrial air conditioning mechanics, following recognized procedures and techniques for such work.

Secondary :

Assist when needed, the engineering team with other MEP projects and repairs.

Responsibilities :

Include, but are not limited to :

Inspect and operate air conditioning and refrigeration systems to determine that they are functioning properly.

Repair or replace air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
Complete preventative maintenance on cooling and refrigeration systems, such as lubricating, cleaning / changing filters, checking belts, etc.
Monitor comfort levels in buildings and adjust as needed using thermostats or Johnson Control Metasys System.
Document all preventative maintenance or repair work completed.
Assist with other MEP duties as needed. This includes, but is not limited to, snow removal.
Assist in construction projects and renovations.
Wear appropriate personal safety equipment as required to safely complete duties / assignments.
Work within OSHA and any other Government regulatory guidelines.
Must be available to be on call weekends and nights on a rotating schedule.
Complete all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

Graduate of a trade or vocational school in HVAC studies.

Five (5) years of HVAC experience.

Must have refrigerant handling certification.

Must possess basic hand tools of the trade

Valid New York State Driver’s License.

NOTE : Due to the driving / travel requirements, this position is subject to the College’s Motor Vehicle Use Policy and the employee will be required to sign a release for a Motor Vehicle Report upon hire. This release will remain in effect through the duration of employment unless revoked in writing. Motor Vehicle Report checks are conducted annually by the College.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions :

Able to lift, carry, push, or pull a variety of tools, equipment and material in excess of 50 lbs.

Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch to gain access to pipes, wiring and equipment.

Properly and safely use a variety of hand tools.

Good vision including, depth perception, color vision, etc.

Able to work in adverse conditions, such as heat, cold and wet.

Exposed to noise and vibrations from operating machinery

Safety Equipment :

Includes, but is not limited to :

Steel toed safety shoes or boots.

Eye protection (glasses or shield).

Hearing protection

Gloves (Rubber, leather, cut resistant, etc.)
