Description
GAI Consultants is currently looking for an Environmental Specialist 1 to join the Wisconsin Environmental Team. Primary office work responsibilities include conducting review and documentation of environmental resources for energy projects, environmental permitting tasks, and construction / project compliance coordination. Office work can be completed from a remote, in-office, or hybrid setting. Field work responsibilities include providing support for storm water compliance monitoring, wetland and waterway field studies, rare species habitat assessments, and FERC hydropower relicensing studies. The individual should have knowledge of federal, state, and local permitting regulations to support energy related projects, or an interest in developing these skills while employed. They will have the opportunity to develop new skills working on environmental project tasks as needed and directed by Task Managers and Project Managers.
Essential Duties :
- Complete construction inspections, erosion control monitoring, and environmental marking and staking
- Assist with field data collection and wetland delineations.
- Work is expected to be approximately 50% field work and 50% office-based work.
- Gain knowledge of regulatory requirements and complete basic regulatory agency applications.
- Receive technical training for career enhancement.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
Technical knowledge of natural resources and field assessment methods.Knowledge and experience with erosion and sedimentation control monitoring and construction inspections on linear projects is preferred.Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime.Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are a must.Must be detail oriented and have strong communication skills.Travel within Wisconsin is a requirement and extended field assignments are possible. Position will be based in a remote home office with field work mostly located in the Central and Southern, WI area.Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and permit applications.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge and use of GPS tools.General Characteristics

Working towards leading field studies and data collection; Generates well written, technically sound documents with little assistance from senior staff and requiring minor edits; Agency interface; Data analysis and interpretation; Acquires ability to research Federal, State, and local applicable environmental regulations and guidance and applies them to project specifics; extensive knowledge of wetland delineations; wetland restoration and wetland design; ecological field surveys; endangered species surveys (understand the requirements of the endangered species act, understand when and how to consult with these agencies, and have working knowledge of the species within the area we work), and duties as required; May become specialized within a specific discipline; receives technical training for career enhancement.Project and Task Management
Works as a part of a team and coordinates work with others.Assists in determining schedule and budget requirements.Management Responsibility
Assigning and overseeing tasks under the direct supervision ofthe task manager and maintaining budgets and schedules; keeping very close communication with Task Managers; assisting Project Managers or Task Manager withproposal preparation; scopes of work and project component cost estimates.Guidance and oversight from Task Managers and Project Managers.No managerial responsibilities at this level.Communication Skills
