Job Description

A Brief Overview

We are seeking a highly capable Senior Environmental Technical Claims Specialist to join our team. This position can be based in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Omaha, Richmond (VA), Rockwood (PA), San Antonio, or remotely within the continental United States. The individual will report to a manager in New York City and will focus on adjudicating first and third party commercial environmental claims, primarily complex storage tank claims, contributing to excellent client outcomes.

Primary duties and responsibilities include :

  • Adjudicate complex commercial environmental claims, often with significant financial impact, under broad management oversight.
  • Conduct detailed investigations and analyses to resolve complex issues.
  • Report claims trends and developments to senior management and underwriters.
  • Review claims forms, policies, endorsements, and related records to assess coverage.
  • Investigate claims thoroughly, including interviewing involved parties.
  • Manage claims in litigation and ensure timely case resolution.
  • Set appropriate claim reserves considering policy wording impacts.
  • Identify loss drivers and claims trends to reduce claim frequency and severity through data analysis.
  • Coordinate expertise resources for case resolution.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports for documentation.
  • Apply creative solutions for optimal financial outcomes.
  • Negotiate effectively within authority limits to achieve cost-effective resolutions.
  • Handle correspondence and prioritize workload efficiently.
  • Maintain a strong passion for effective claim management.

Core qualifications and requirements :

  • Strong business acumen related to insurance operations and profitability.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience adjudicating commercial environmental claims with exposures of $100,000 or more.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university; J.D. preferred. Equivalent experience or insurance designations may be substituted.
  • Licensing as a Claims Examiner or ability to obtain licenses within 120 days.
  • Excellent communication, evaluation, and strategic skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills and customer focus.
  • Effective time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to articulate financial impacts at various organizational levels.
  • Discretion, judgment, and integrity in decision-making.
  • Resilience, adaptability, and resourcefulness in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other relevant software.
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
