Automation Engineer – Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

Location : Cary, IL (onsite)

Compensation : Up to $100K–110K + 5% bonus

We’re seeking an Automation Engineer to join a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer in Cary, IL. This role is ideal for an engineer with a strong controls background who thrives in a production environment. While experience in pharmaceutical or high-speed assembly manufacturing is preferred, we are open to candidates from OEMs or other industries who are motivated to grow and develop in this space.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and support process engineering projects that improve quality, reduce costs, increase yield, and minimize downtime.
  • Design, modify, and integrate high-speed equipment and machinery to support production and process engineering needs.
  • Conceptualize, source, qualify, and install purchased automation equipment.
  • Troubleshoot technical challenges, supporting manufacturing across all shifts (primarily 1st shift hours).
  • Introduce innovative new assembly and automation technologies into production processes.
  • Provide technical direction and training to technician staff.
  • Apply problem-solving tools such as FMEA, DOE, Lean, or Six Sigma to drive continuous improvement.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering (other disciplines considered).
  • 2–15 years of manufacturing engineering experience (automation and high-speed assembly preferred).
  • Strong controls / PLC programming skills (Allen-Bradley required; Siemens experience a plus, but not required).
  • Experience with robotics and / or machine building is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD design.
  • Demonstrated project management and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead and collaborate effectively.
