Assistant Professor of Anthropology

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology in the School of Arts & Sciences at the University of Richmond seeks to hire a full-time, tenure-track Anthropologist at the level of Assistant Professor to begin in the 2026-2027 academic year. A Ph.D. in Anthropology is required by the time of appointment. Candidates who are ABD at the time of application will be considered.

Candidates should have expertise in Anthropology of Law and / or Human Rights, with additional interests or expertise in environmental anthropology . Expertise in all regions of the world is accepted, although expertise on Latin America and / or Africa would complement the strengths of the department. Candidates are expected to offer courses in their areas of expertise and contribute to teaching core courses, including Ethnographic Methods and Introduction to Anthropology. Our curriculum focuses on cultural anthropology with a strong emphasis on teaching that fosters students' independent research and critical thinking skills.
