Job Overview
The Building Automation Systems Field Technician is responsible for installing, programming, commissioning, and servicing building automation and control systems in commercial and industrial facilities. This role ensures that HVAC, lighting, energy management, and related systems operate efficiently, reliably, and in accordance with project specifications and customer requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, program, troubleshoot, and maintain building automation systems (BAS) and associated low voltage controls.
- Service HVAC control systems, sensors, actuators, and controllers.
- Configure and calibrate system software and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, building plans, and technical manuals.
- Conduct preventative maintenance, system diagnostics, and performance optimization.
- Collaborate with facility managers, contractors, and engineers to resolve system issues and ensure project completion.
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, local codes, and manufacturer guidelines.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or BAS-related certifications preferred.Experience with building automation, HVAC controls, or low voltage systems.Proficiency with BAS programming, troubleshooting, and calibration.Strong understanding of electrical systems, sensors, and network communications (BACnet, Modbus, etc.).Effective problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.Ability to work in various environments, including confined spaces, attics, crawlspaces, and at heights.Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods.Work Environment
This is a field-based position requiring travel to commercial, institutional, or and industrial buildings.Work hours may vary based on project schedules and may include evenings, weekends, and overtime.Compensation & Benefits
