Shouldcost Engineer

Rivian is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Should Cost Engineer with a strong background in Electrical and Electronics systems within the automotive industry . This role is critical to developing accurate should-cost models and supporting cost optimization strategies across a range of automotive electrical commodities.

Responsibilities

• Develop should-cost estimates for electrical and electronic automotive components including :
• Electric motors
• Connectors
• Displays
• PCBAs
• Semiconductor-based components
• Analyze data from CAD models, engineering drawings, physical samples, and technical assumptions to build cost projections.
• Utilize aPriori and other cost analysis tools to perform detailed should-cost analysis.
• Gather and assess data on raw materials, labor, tooling, and processing to inform accurate cost models.
• Interface with suppliers and manufacturing teams to determine the most cost-effective production methods.
• Collaborate with design engineers to ensure components are engineered with cost efficiency in mind while meeting performance requirements.
• Mentor and guide junior team members on cost modeling, manufacturing processes, and value engineering principles.
• Participate in competitive benchmarking and target setting for future vehicle models.
• Lead and support Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE) activities to identify and implement cost reduction opportunities across products and processes.
