Overview

The University of Iowa Community Clinics is seeking a patient-centered 100% (40 hours a week) Staff Nurse to work at our UICC Dermatology Clinic, Cedar Rapids. We use the latest techniques to care for a range of conditions affecting the skin and work closely with patients to take precautions against skin cancer, infections, dry skin, and the aging effects of sun exposure. Our services include treatment of cosmetic skin problems such as age spots and birthmarks and the removal of unwanted hair and tattoos. We offer chemical peels, Botox injections and dermal fillers. We also provide general dermatology services and quick scheduling for appointments. This position will mainly support our Cedar Rapids OBGYN Clinic but could float to other patient specialties / clinic locations including but not limited to : Specialty / Outreach, Family Medicine, and / or Pediatrics.

For over 100 years, the health and wellness of our patients has been our primary focus. Our Staff Nurses develop relationships and get to know our patients and monitor each family member’s health care history to deliver personalized, compassionate care every time to each patient.

Duties

  • Staff will support our Dermatology Clinic patients.
  • Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
  • Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
  • Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
  • Develops patient care plans based on patient condition, age, and psychosocial factors that prescribe interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Implements patient care plans according to patient priorities, including interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents / reports interventions and patient / family response.
  • Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plans.
  • Develops, coordinates, and implements transfer / discharge planning throughout the episode of care.
  • Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and / or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Follows universal precautions.
  • Driver's license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.

Percent of Time

100% (40 hours per week)

Schedule

Variable hours, Monday through Friday, between 7 : 30 AM and 5 : 30 PM, with 8-hour shifts. Standard clinic hours are 8 : 00 AM–5 : 00 PM. No weekends, on-call time, or holidays required.

Cedar Rapids, IA (or surrounding clinics based on clinical need or hours)

Pay and Salary

Pay Grade : 52

Salary : $57,587 – $105,636 (based on years of experience)

Education

  • An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN / Clinical Nurse Leader, or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required
  • Required Qualifications

  • Current license to practice in the state of Iowa by the time of hire
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients / families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members
  • General computer skills
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider card from the American Heart Association
  • Driver's license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards
  • Special Qualifications

  • Demonstrated excellent written / verbal communication
  • Highly Desirable Qualifications

  • Ability to demonstrate teamwork and autonomy in all aspects of the role
  • Minimum 6 months–1 year of dermatology experience
  • Previous EPIC experience
  • Previous scribing experience
  • Demonstrated experience fostering a welcoming and respectful work / academic environment
  • Previous experience working autonomously
  • Desirable Qualifications

  • Active enrollment in a BSN program if the Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained
  • Dermatology knowledge and understanding of policies and procedures
  • Previous ambulatory experience
