Job Summary

Supports general business operations by providing various transportation and related support activities as a generalist or in a combination of disciplines in the Transportation Services and Administration Function

Impact of the Role

General Profile

  • Requires full proficiency in a range of technical processes or procedures through job-related training and considerable on-the-job experience
  • Completes a variety of atypical assignments
  • Works within defined technical processes and procedures or methodologies and may help determine the appropriate approach for new assignments
  • Works with a limited degree of supervision, with oversight focused only on complex new assignments
  • Acts as an informal resource for colleagues with less experience
  • Performs manual tasks according to established procedures

Essential Functions

  • Operates a large or heavy truck that transports cargo to and from specified locations on time and according to schedule.
  • Operates vehicle safely and responsibly, adhering to all DOT and company safety regulations.
  • Conducts routine inspections prior to departure to ensure the vehicle is in optimal condition.
  • Manages appropriate cargo documentation and provides necessary paperwork upon the delivery of goods.
  • Coordinates the loading and unloading of the truck, verifying cargo and ensuring items are properly stored and secured.
  • Maintains contact with dispatcher to provide status updates, clarify special instructions, and notify about delays or issues during transport.

    • Required Qualifications

  • Required education and experience : Vocational / Technical Training Degree and 5-7 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education & / or Experience
  • Other : CDL-A with hazmat endorsement required

    • Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred education and experience : Associate's Degree
  • Discipline / Major : Technical training preferred
  • Knowledge, skills & abilities : Shipping Documentation. DOT Regulations. Loads / Secures / Unloads Cargo. Maintain Travel Logs. Transport Cargo. Vehicle Safety Checks. Vehicle Inspection.

    • Physical Requirements

  • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
  • Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and / or operate machinery.
  • May be requested to work a different shift.
  • Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required.
  • This position is Safety-Sensitive.

    • Travel Requirements

    More than 50% travel likely.
