Position Overview

Responsible for loading barges, checking drafts, handling lines and cables, switching and moving barges. Communicating with boat pilot and quarry personnel to coordinate barge loading. Routine housekeeping and maintenance duties.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

• Safely handle docking barges, handle lines, clean walkways on barges, inspect barges for water, and remove old or broken rigging and lines.
• Responsible for a safe work environment for themselves and co-workers.
• Properly follow all company policies and USCG / MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment. Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by USCG and / or MSHA. Required to know when and how to properly use emergency equipment.
• Follow directions of Foreperson daily.
• Perform barge maintenance duties as required. Report maintenance issues to Foreperson.
• Inspect barges and other assigned equipment daily.
• Communicate daily production rates and problems to the Foreperson.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
• Reliable attendance is essential to performance in this role.
