Insurance / Patient Reimbursement Specialist

The remote Insurance / Patient Reimbursement Specialist works in a team environment to interpret and evaluate patient and insurance credit balances in NextGen. This includes following up with payers and insurance providers to assure timely turnaround for claims resolution and reimbursement and also reviewing accounts to ensure charges, payments and adjustments are entered correctly in the system before refunding.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions :

  • Review of outstanding patient and insurance credits via a tasking work log, patient encounter notes / emails, Excel spreadsheet, and insurance refund request letters.
  • Review of outstanding patient / insurance credits to verify that each charge, payment, and adjustment is entered correctly in the system before processing the refund.
  • Utilize web portals to investigate and critique insurance claims as necessary
  • Regular phone and email interaction with insurance companies, clinic staff, and patients to resolve claim credit issues
  • Ability to problem solve and think critically
  • Assist with major insurance and patient billing issues
  • As part of an overflow queue, answer any incoming telephone calls
  • Review and complete other practice management reports as necessary
  • Operate in a team oriented work environment
  • All other job related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education :

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Business, Healthcare or closely related field is preferred.
  • Will consider candidates with commensurate experience in working follow up on medical claims or reviewing medical account credits.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • 1-2 years of recent medical office experience in a similar capacity is required.
  • Previous customer service experience is preferred.
  • Proficient in basic computer functions.
  • Ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Must possess excellent customer service, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Understanding of CPT and ICD-10 coding and general medical terminology is required.
  • Must possess attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team.
  • Ability to respond positively to constructive criticism and direction from supervisors.
  • Must demonstrate professional appearance and manner at all times.
  • Must display a friendly, cheerful, tactful, and polite demeanor, and must be compassionate and caring in dealing with others.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Physical Demands :

  • Ability to communicate in an active multi-office environment.
  • Ability to efficiently operate all job related office equipment (telephone, computer, calculator, fax, copier).
  • For this position, the base pay range is $17.50- $18.00 per hour. Individual pay is determined by role, level, location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education, certifications or training.
