Job Summary
Reporting to Sterile Processing leadership, collaborates with the Director of Sterile Processing, as well as the Sterile Processing Manager and Educator of each facility, to ensure proper sterile processing education, training, and competencies are completed in each department. Works with other CSPD-Education Coordintor(s) and as a liaison at each assigned facility to promote standardization of the sterilization, decontamination, and assembly, sterile storage, and sterilization processes across Prisma Health. The position requires working within the standards and guidelines of multiple industry agencies (including, but not limiting to TJC, AAMI, FDA, CDC).

Responsible for all training, competencies, and education in decontamination, assembly, sterile storage, sterilization processes and standard precautions at each assigned facility. Trainings are based on Prisma Health policies, AAMI guidelines, and guidelines from other associated agencies.
Maintains employee education files to include competencies, continuing education units, and any documentation required by Prisma Health or regulatory agencies for all employees in the Sterile Processing departments of the Midlands, including managers and supervisors.
Conducts initial and ongoing assessments for all staff members to develop individualized education plans as needed, based on the specific needs and education level of the staff member.
Develops / implements monthly and weekly department education plans to ensuring prioritized educational needs are met and supported, as well as coordinating on-site training provided by outside vendors.
Ensures the departments meet all regulations, standards, and guidelines consistent with AAMI, TJC, CMS, CDC, OSHA, and FDA requirements, as well as Prisma Health policies and procedures. Works as a liaison to promote standardization of the sterilization, decontamination, and assembly, sterile storage, and sterilization processes for each assigned facility.
Maintains and updates knowledge of industry standards and evidence-based practices through active research and professional participation. Promotes performance improvement and quality control related to technical skills.
Actively participates in the creation and revision of policies and procedures related to Sterile Processing within Prisma Health, as well as educational changes made to the instrument tracking system.
Provides recommendations to sterile processing leadership to assist in decisions regarding coaching and counseling, mentorship, and evaluation performance. Fully accountable for final decision with regards to training.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory / Management Responsibilities
Job is a non-management position that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.
Minimum Requirements
Education - Completion of formal CSPD (Sterile Processing) program.Bachelor's degree in related field of study preferred.
Experience - Three (3) years CSPD (Sterile Processing) experience
In Lieu Of :
In lieu of related coursework only, will accept BS in related field and 2 years related experience OR High School diploma (or GED) and 4 years related experience.
Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
Certification as either : CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) from HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association); OR CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing & Distribution Technician) from CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution)
Certification as CIS (Certified Instrument Specialist) from HSPA or CSIS (Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist) from CBSPD preferred.
Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) from HSPA preferred.
Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER) from HSPA or CBSPD preferred
