Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner

Brighton, MA (On-Site) | Full-Time | $120,000 – $160,000 / year

A leading nonprofit organization in the Greater Boston area is seeking a highly skilled and autonomous Nurse Practitioner to lead its Occupational Health Services . This role is ideal for a seasoned NP who thrives in independent practice, is passionate about employee health and safety, and brings clinical expertise across both preventive and urgent care.

About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Occupational Health, the Nurse Practitioner will serve as the sole clinical provider in the department—managing pre-employment screenings, work-related injuries and exposures, fit-for-duty evaluations, and employee health consults. The ideal candidate brings deep clinical experience, sound judgment, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Practice

Conduct pre-employment screenings, physical exams, and health assessments

Manage workplace injuries, exposures, and return-to-work evaluations

Order, interpret, and evaluate lab and diagnostic tests to inform care decisions

Develop and manage treatment plans, referrals, and follow-up care

Provide health education and counseling with an emphasis on prevention and wellness

Maintain accurate and timely medical records in accordance with standards of care

Ensure proper documentation and coordination with other departments as needed

Stay current on community resources and support employees in accessing them

Professional Development & Leadership

Act as the department's clinical lead and collaborate with internal leadership to update policies and protocols

Mentor or guide support staff or rotating clinicians as needed

Maintain active involvement in committees or task forces as appropriate

Participate in ongoing education and demonstrate commitment to evidence-based practice

Quality Improvement & Research

Engage in quality improvement initiatives to evaluate outcomes and enhance care

Identify opportunities for program development, innovation, and process improvement

Utilize research and data to inform best practices within the occupational health setting

Required Qualifications

NP licensure in Massachusetts, with authorization to practice in an expanded role

Registered with the ANCC , DEA , and State of Massachusetts for prescribing

BLS and ACLS certifications (active)

Minimum 3 years of current clinical nursing experience and 2 years in adult practice

Must be comfortable working independently as the sole clinical provider in the department

Preferred Experience

Prior experience in Occupational Health , Urgent Care , Sports Medicine , or Emergency Medicine

Familiarity with OSHA standards, workplace wellness, and employee health risk assessments

Experience in a nonprofit or hospital-based setting is a plus

Requirements

Strong diagnostic and clinical reasoning skills

Excellent communication, patient education, and conflict resolution abilities

Ability to navigate a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision

High degree of initiative, organization, and professional maturity

Proficiency with electronic health record systems and digital health tools
