Overview
We are hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer to support below-the-hook product lines with responsibilities in research, development, design, testing, analysis, and production. The role performs complex engineering assignments using standard techniques and procedures and oversees engineering tests to determine quality, durability, and overall product satisfaction and use. The position is on-site in Rockford, IL with hands-on collaboration with the local team. Remote candidates with proven experience in the Below the Hook industry may also be considered.
Responsibilities
- Researches and analyzes customer design proposals, specifications, manuals and other data to evaluate feasibility, cost and design requirements.
- Designs, evaluates, and maintains designs of standard products including weldments, drive systems, equipment, systems and processes using engineering principles.
- Analyzes and validates structural design and conducts stress analysis.
- Partners with the Sales team to gather information from customers on special / custom products.
- Addresses and resolves functional, structural or scheduling issues raised by Designers.
- Works with the fabrication team to resolve design variances and establish improvements for future builds.
- Provides engineering guidance to Designers and manufacturing team members regarding drawing changes.
- Identifies required changes to WIP prints and master drawings when changes are identified and ensures corrections are implemented.
- Oversees Designers' use of computerized design tools and ensures basic stress analysis is appropriate.
- Approves jobs and drawings for other designers and design engineers.
- Complies with all safety requirements.
Minimum Education
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (BSME) with basic knowledge of electrical principlesMinimum Work Experience
Three years of experience in a mechanical engineering roleExperience designing and revising using AutoCAD, SolidWorks or other automated design softwareExperience in documenting engineering workMinimum Skill Requirements
