Job Summary :

The surgical nurse QA / Block coordinator manages the complex process of matching scheduled surgeries for patients, with blocks that are available with anesthesia providers. This requires coordinating communication between surgical staff, physicians and scheduling coordinators.

A Registered Nurse holds this role; who uses clinical expertise to ensure the allocation of anesthesia providers can support scheduling process and patient preparation in a timely manner. For a surgical nurse QA / Block coordinator role, clinical experience is critical because it ensures the coordinator understands the medical context of surgical procedures, not just the administrative aspects. This knowledge is used for evaluating case information and prioritizing schedules, particularly when dealing with urgent or complex cases and shortages of anesthesia availability. Has the extensive knowledge of surgery charting and tissue manager auditing for completeness and accuracy; updates and creates surgical preference cards. Will add and drop blocks in resource scheduling as needed. Will be required to take Administrative Call; circulate cases and provide for lunch relief for the staff when necessary.

Education :

Associates or Bachelors of Nursing required

Certification & Licensures :

Registered Nurse License required

Experience :

3 - 5 years of experience required

Additional Experience Requirements :

• Medical terminology : Possesses an in-depth knowledge of surgical procedures and medical terminology to effectively coordinate cases.
• Organizational skills : Must be highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
