Position Purpose
The Histology Technician performs all routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by both pathologists and Mohs surgeons.
Schedule
Monday-Friday 7 : 00 AM-3 : 30 PM or 7 : 30am-4 : 00PM
Role and Responsibilities
Perform routine histology procedures including : specimen grossing, embedding, processing, slide preparation, H&E staining, special stainingMaintain the quality of all histology specimens, including verification of blocks and slides to case numbers to ensure correct patient labelingCorrectly prepare special stains and solutionsPerforms routine maintenance, and troubleshoots equipment issuesParticipate in MOHs, if not trained, training will be providedAdheres to quality control policiesPerforms other duties as assignedQualifications and Education Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent required.Associate's degree or higher in a chemical, physical, or biological science OR minimum 24 hours (with 6-chemistry, 6-biology, and 12 hours in chemistry, biology, medical terminology in any combination)Meet CLIA personnel qualification requirements for High Complexity Laboratory Testing Personnel available for review at http : / / www.idph.state.il.us / clia / pdf / LaboratoryPersonnelQualifications.pdfAbility to multi-taskManual dexterity to use common laboratory equipmentAbility to work in a team and service oriented environment.
