Family Advocate

Overview

Early Learning / HeadStart or Early HeadStart

The Family Advocate will work as part of an interdisciplinary team within the case management system to ensure the provision of comprehensive services to children and families in the Program. The Family Advocate must also have the proven ability to maintain positive relationships and work effectively with low-income families from varying cultural backgrounds in a warm and respectful manner.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for supporting the family's educational and family stability goals based on assigned caseload and family needs assessment.
• This position requires home visits / conferences to each family, based on program Performance Standards.
• Must be computer proficient and maintain accurate case records.
• Assist in planning and implementing activities, such as : performing outreach to community agencies to identify and access resources for families, meet all ERSEA (Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment, and Attendance) requirements, and voucher management and payment collection.
• Arranges for / provides interpretive services, transportation, and other support services as needed or requested by parents.
• Support school readiness activities and parent engagement.
• Other duties as assigned based on the program's needs.

Required for home visits, meetings, training, and off-site events.

Physical Demands

This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and / or move items over 50 pounds.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment and uses standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
