Deckhand - Port Arthur, Texas

Job duties are as follows, but not limited to :

  • Securing barges together (building tow & working in fleet)
  • Securing boat to barges (facing boat up)
  • Line handling and affixes rigging
  • Minor engine room work (oil changes, greasing, filter changes, etc.)
  • Painting
  • Cooking
  • General housekeeping and upkeep of the vessel, including washing, chipping, painting, and cleaning
  • Tow work, including carrying rigging, and building tow
  • Loads and unloads materials
  • Stand lookout watches while the vessel is underway
  • Lubricates machinery and equipment
  • Splices and repair wire cables
  • Uses handtools
  • Checks void tanks on barges for leaks
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as required or requested

Basic requirements :

  • Must have and maintain a TWIC.
  • Must have and maintain a valid / current Driver's license.
  • At least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Must have the ability to receive and carry out instruction.
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Must have dependable transportation to designated Turn Services locations, no exceptions.
  • Must be able to work various hours / holidays / weekends.
  • Ability to work in a flexible schedule; must allow for changes in assignments and priorities depending upon identified needs of the vessel
  • Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team

    • Physical Requirements :

  • Must meet "fit for duty" requirements upon job offer (pre-employment physical and drug test).
  • The employee must meet physical requirements including but not limited to, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing up / down ladders and stairs, negotiating uneven and moving surfaces.
  • Must be able to work in difficult conditions with exposure to all weather conditions
  • Must be comfortable working aboard boats and barges.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds.
