Stormwater Division Supervisor

The purpose of this position is to supervise and lead the Stormwater Division of the Public Works Department, coordinating the maintenance, repair and renovation, or construction of all projects. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
  • Leads and performs routine maintenance on the County's drainage easements which may include operating chainsaws to cut trees and limbs, operating commercial weed eaters and earth compactors, preparing site-mixed concrete and operating County vehicles to include small dump trucks.
  • Unclogs drainage with various equipment and vehicles, including vac truck, excavators, etc.
  • Cleans debris from drainage systems.
  • Checks for and repairs sinkholes.
  • Inspects equipment.
  • Performs site safety and provides traffic control.
  • Supervises the maintenance, cleaning, and repair of equipment.
  • Answers citizen and agency inquiries and provides information; refers complex questions to the Assistant Superintendent; files citizen complaint forms and reports.
  • Assists in budget preparation and administration of the approved budget.
  • Purchases materials, tools and supplies, as required.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS :

  • Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
  • Over two years and up to and including four years of related experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state commercial driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment.
