Overview
Position Summary : This position is responsible for ongoing packaging related business support activities, the development of new primary and secondary packaging solutions as well as the design, development and commercialization of merchandising display units.
Responsibilities
- Works collaboratively with peers and cross-functional team members and is accountable for all packaging related NPD (program management) tasks and activities.
- Works closely with procurement, packaging component suppliers, design firms and research affiliates to identify, develop and source primary and secondary packaging options as well as new merchandising display solutions.
- Supports operations (new equipment design / validations), QA, and customer service teams with respect to transferring new packaging designs to the production floor and to resolving packaging related production challenges.
- Identifies / develops new-innovative packaging, printing, and merchandising concepts.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining an internal packaging specification data-base, associated processes and procedures (SOPs).
- Responsible for complying with; GLP's, cGMP's, regulatory guidance documents, and Carma Laboratories policies and procedures.
- Responsible for supporting existing standard operating procedures as well as recommending ongoing process / procedure improvements.
- Works collaboratively with cross functional business partners and colleagues to develop, support, manage and execute against all packaging project timelines.
- Responsible for hands-on development and testing (i.e. stability, material performance and functionality) of new primary / secondary packaging solutions, printing, shippers, and merchandising display units.
- Works closely with suppliers and manufacturing to support the transfer of new packaging components and / or materials to the production floor.
- Coordinates and manages external testing laboratories to meet timelines and reporting dates.
- Works closely with Carma Regulatory Dept. to maintain global regulatory awareness with respect to resins, dyes / pigment safety, and packaging testing requirements (i.e. heavy metals, dye / pigment migration, processing aids).
- Maintains a current working understanding of global packaging and sustainability regulations.
- Maintains awareness of global competitive and not-in-kind packaging trends.
- Works closely with supervisor to develop packaging Intellectual Property as appropriate.
Required Experience, Desired Skills & Qualifications
Minimum 5 years' experience in a cosmetic / OTC / medical device / household CPG company, with packaging development experience.Experience with GLP's and cGMP's.Experience writing SOPs, packaging and finished product specificationsExperienced in part / component design and developing new primary and secondary consumer preferred packaging designs / solutions (e.g. injection molded, extruded, co-molded, cardboard boxes / cards, blow molded, flexible packaging, film / paper / foil lamination etc.)Experience with adhesive systems (water based, hot melt, pressure sensitive etc.)Demonstrated ability to manage multiple programs and prioritiesWorking knowledge of packaging component modeling (e.g. SLA, printing etc.)Working knowledge of unit and production tool design, development, and validationHands on experience with CAD, Pro-E, Creo, Cape / TopsExperience developing / commercializing merchandizing display units - preferredHand-on, working knowledge of packaging resins, corrugate, paperboard, processing aids, resin dyes / pigments, printing inks and processes, and material compatibility requirements.Working knowledge of FDA and global (preferred) packaging related requirements (i.e. PFAS, heavy metals, food grade, GRAS).Hands on experience regarding packaging material test methods (Mullen burst, colorimeter, stress-modulus, permeation, shaker table, optical comparator, drop / ship, print durability etc.)(Preferred) Working knowledge pertaining to consumer package verification / validation (i.e. concept testing, product-package-concept testing, qualitative and quantitative research)Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional project team environmentExperience in a product development - manufacturing environmentExcellent oral and written communication skillsOpen, honest communication styleStrong computer skills (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Smartsheet)Working knowledge of statistical data treatmentWorks effectively in a team-based, Play-to-Win environmentEducational Qualifications
