Job Description : Summary :
The Nursing Assistant will provide direct patient / resident care and supportive services to nursing unit and health care provider team under registered nurse supervision. Responsibilities include : bedside patient / resident care, nursing assistant procedures, stocking supplies, maintaining equipment, routine housekeeping duties as needed, transportation of patients / residents as necessary, basic computer skills for documentation of care & procedures performed and for training and education needs.
Assists or performs Activities of Daily Living (i.e. bathing, toileting, eating, dressing, grooming, etc.) for the patients / residents of the facility as well as changes bed linen and assists with transferring residents from bed to chair, chair to bed and turning and repositioning of the patient / resident while in bed. Observes and reports the presence of pressure areas and skin breakdown to prevent decubitus ulcers. Reports accident, incidents, injuries, and / or skin tears to nurse supervisor / charge nurse. Measures and records blood pressure, heart rate, respirations, temperature and informs the RN / nurse supervisor / charge nurse if not within normal limits for the patient / resident (i.e. increased / decreased blood pressure, increased / decreased heart rate, etc.). Performs blood glucose monitoring if required per department expectations. Ability to use computer and basic clerical skills is a must. Performs clerical functions within the unit to include answering phones / call lights, inputting orders into the computer, supply ordering, etc. Performs other duties as deemed necessary and appropriate or as directed by the leader / manager.
Must meet education and training requirements of department. Completes training / competency in specialty skills / procedures for department population (example : orthopedic care procedures) as designated.
Must be flexible to change working area / service multiple times daily.
Requirements :
High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Certificate (GED or HISET) or confirmation of three years of experience in hospital / medical setting. Individuals who are at least 18 years of age and who have graduated or are actively enrolled in a high school / secondary education program in good standing with the academic institution and on track for meeting the high school / secondary graduation requirements are eligible for employment in this role.
Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training / certification / licensure may also be considered.
Licenses and Certifications :
AHA BLS is required for any direct patient care provider.
