Division Manager (Substations) - Electrical Construction - Michigan

Gryphon Oakwood is currently working on a Division Manager role where the individual will be responsible for all substation projects for an Electrical Construction Contractor based in Michigan, USA.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in substations, transmission / distribution systems, or utility operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of substation design, protection & control, high-voltage equipment, and system operations.
  • Proven experience managing large teams, budgets, and complex projects.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead and manage the division responsible for substation planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance.
  • Develop and implement division strategies, budgets, and performance metrics aligned with company objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and regulations (e.g. OSHA).
  • Drive operational excellence by establishing best practices, improving workflows, and optimizing resource allocation.
  • Oversee project execution from initiation through commissioning, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Provide technical guidance on substation engineering, equipment specifications, and system reliability improvements.
  • Manage workforce planning and development of team members.
  • Collaborate with other divisions (transmission, distribution etc.) to ensure system reliability and efficiency.
  • Develop strong vendor, contractor, and stakeholder relationships to support project and operational success.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to inform strategic planning.
  • Champion a culture of safety and continuous improvement across all division activities.
