Overview
The Senior Medical Assistant Certified (Sr. MA) provides expert support for advanced examinations and treatments under the direct supervision of a Physician and / or Registered Nurse. This role contributes to high-quality patient care, supports delegated medical assistant tasks, and may serve as a preceptor and clinical resource within the department. Responsibilities include coordinating patient care activities, clerical duties in accordance with CLIA, HIPAA, NCQA, and company policies, and ensuring medical necessity compliance and eligibility verification where applicable.
Responsibilities
- Assist with patient examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatments, and dressing changes under supervision.
- Perform preceptor duties and act as a clinical resource to Medical Assistants; train and orient staff as appropriate.
- Schedule patient appointments, verify medical necessity, and confirm eligibility for care when needed.
- Support EMR system usage as a Super-User and ensure proper documentation of care in the patient's EMR.
- Provide care coordination with hospital, ED, consulting physicians, and community resources; respond to patient inquiries as appropriate.
- Model professional behavior and contribute to team- and department-level performance, including patient satisfaction initiatives.

Provide care to patients visiting the clinic under direct supervision, performing pre-visit planning and documentation as possible; anticipate the needs of the patient population in collaboration with the provider team.Document vital signs, chief complaints, medication reviews, medical / social history, and care provided in the EMR in accordance with policies.Ensure follow-up : patient compliance with recommendations, medications, lab / x-ray results, and referrals; promote MyChart usage where appropriate.Coordinate care with hospital, ED, consulting physicians, and community resources when appropriate.Support patient satisfaction initiatives and role-model professional behaviors to improve department scores.Quality / Safety Essential Functions
Report observations and abnormal findings to the physician / nurse; protect patient privacy and safety.Perform routine tests (e.g., EKG, rapid strep, urinalysis, pregnancy tests) as appropriate.Sterilize instruments, prepare and maintain exam / treatment rooms and supplies.Finance Essential Functions
Use resources efficiently; stock exam rooms, manage inventory, and order supplies as needed.Manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and minimize unnecessary overtime; collaborate with team to meet department demands.Growth / Innovation Essential Functions

High School diploma or equivalent (GED, homeschool equivalency, or partial / post-secondary education acceptable).Work Experience
Five years of medical assistant experience with highly complex / chronic disease management or in a specialty discipline.Licenses And Certifications - Required
Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, NHA) or Registered Medical Assistant or EMT; BLS certification (AHA).Licenses And Certifications - Preferred
Phlebotomy Technician CPT certification.Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Competence to perform assigned duties with ongoing skills assessment and performance evaluations.Proficient in English communication; strong customer service focus with patients, families, and staff.Knowledge of medical practice, care of patients, examinations, diagnostics, and treatment procedures; familiarity with medical equipment and instruments.Ability to maintain accurate medical records and clinical quality assurance.Strong problem-solving, reasoning, and teamwork abilities; patient-centered, compassionate care.Proficient computer skills for documentation; ongoing training and certification maintenance.Ability to build effective working relationships with patients, staff, and the public; teamwork aptitude.Supplemental Requirements
