General Labor

Join a dynamic team involved in the manufacturing of a wide range of brick sizes and colors. As a General Laborer, you will be responsible for blending, repacking, cutting, waxing, and hand-setting bricks. You will also operate equipment used to apply banding material and cross straps to ensure the secure packaging of brick cubes.

Responsibilities

  • Blend, repack, cut, wax, and hand-set bricks as part of production operations.
  • Operate equipment for banding material application around brick straps.
  • Assist with machinery and strapping tool repairs when necessary.
  • Handle heavy lifting, including rolls of banding weighing approximately 40 pounds and edge protectors of 25 pounds.
  • Perform tasks involving twisting and bending.
  • Cut faces off bricks for display panels and manage their processing from conveyor to saw, washing, and drying.
  • Inspect and grade bricks according to company specifications, assessing chips, cracks, size, distortion, and color range.
  • Maintain good balance and body positioning during standing tasks to avoid injury.

Essential Skills

  • 3 months of previous experience in a general labor role requiring prolonged standing.
  • Proficient in general labor tasks and processes, including production, warehouse operations, packing, and inspection.
  • Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Potential to operate machinery and receive training for forklift operation.

    Work Environment

    Work in a heated facility during winter, though air conditioning is not available in summer. The team comprises 100-130 people, from office staff to production employees. Follow a dress code requiring closed-toed leather work boots and appropriate attire, such as jeans and a t-shirt, with no offensive language on clothing. The work schedule is typically Monday to Friday, 7 : 00 AM to 3 : 30 PM, with potential overtime on weekends. Shift workers on the second shift will monitor kiln operations and perform preventive maintenance, with a shift time from 3 PM to 11 PM, working six days on and two days off, including holidays.

    Job Type & Location

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of ADEL, Iowa.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $17.95 - $24.44 / hr.
