The Open Heart Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for meeting patients priority needs through assessment, participating in interdisciplinary care planning, providing and / or delegating care based on patient needs and evaluating patients responses. The Open Heart RN contributes to an efficient and effective work environment through professional communication and documentation, preceptoring and / or resourcing of others.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

\n\n

  • Initiates assessment and reassessment based on the patients presenting problems / needs in accordance with Bryan Medical Centers policies and procedures.

\n\n

  • Synthesizes pertinent initial and ongoing patient data to identify nursing priorities for care and desired outcomes / goals.
  • \n\n

  • Integrates the patients plan of care based on the diagnosis and age-specific needs.
  • \n\n

  • Executes therapeutic and / or supportive interventions consistent with perioperative procedures.
  • \n\n

  • Provides education for the patient and family to meet identified patient needs.
  • \n\n

  • Evaluates the patients response to and effectiveness of interventions.
  • \n\n

  • Evaluates patients progress toward established outcomes.
  • \n\n

  • Incorporates cultural considerations into the plan and delivery of care.
  • \n\n

  • Documents patient care and related information according to Bryan Medical Center procedures for documentation.
  • \n\n

  • Provides care in conjunction with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • \n\n

  • Facilitates patients transition to the next level of care.
  • \n\n

  • Assumes responsibility in a shared or delegated assignment and supports team members practices through timely communication.
  • \n\n

  • Actively participates in continued learning opportunities and continued self-development pertinent to the work unit and duties of the job.
  • \n\n

  • Performs therapeutic nursing interventions consistent with the intraoperataive care of the cardio-thoracic surgical patient including :
  • \n\n

  • initiating advanced cardiac life support guidelines;
  • \n\n

  • performing dysrrhythmia assessment and intervention;
  • \n\n

  • providing pre- and intra-operative care;
  • \n\n

  • performing hemodynamic monitoring and vasoactive medication administration.
  • \n\n

  • Manages the care of the patients with conditions including :
  • \n\n

  • multi-system failure / cardio-thoracic trauma;
  • \n\n

  • acute cardiovascular disease;
  • \n\n

  • acute respiratory failure;
  • \n\n

  • acute neurological insult / injury;
  • \n\n

  • acute renal failure.
  • \n\n

  • Demonstrates ability to manage the care of patients receiving :
  • \n\n

  • coronary bypass;
  • \n\n

  • valve procedures.
  • \n\n

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

    \n\n

    Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act. Must provide evidence of certification and / or instruction for practice area as required by State or Federal standards / regulations. Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
