Job Description
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Control Systems Engineer to join our Engineering team focused on next-generation industrial power conversion equipment. This role is integral to a cross-functional design group, responsible for the complete lifecycle of control systems—from initial design and modeling through debugging, release, and product support. The equipment ranges in power from 3.5 kVA up to 250 kVA (rectifiers, converters, and inverters). This is a hands-on, critical role that requires expertise in both theoretical control design and practical laboratory verification.
Salary : $100,000 - $105,000 (Direct Hire)
Key Responsibilities
Algorithm Development : Design, develop, and implement closed-loop control algorithms and corresponding software in C programming language for advanced power electronics topologies (rectifier, converter, and inverter circuits).
Modeling & Simulation : Analyze and mathematically model power electronic circuits and systems, utilizing professional simulation tools to design and optimize control functions.
Testing & Verification : Perform extensive laboratory work on power conversion hardware, including testing, verification, and hands-on troubleshooting of control algorithms at both the control loop and system level.
Documentation : Develop detailed specifications, requirements, and validation plans for the control software related to the electrical characteristics of the equipment. Document laboratory testing and results in comprehensive written reports.
Integration : Integrate the developed control software seamlessly with other embedded software functions within the power conversion equipment.
Continuous Improvement : Stay current on the latest theories, techniques, and technical developments in control systems to continuously improve product performance and efficiency.
Required Qualifications & Technical Expertise
Education : Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required (MS preferred).
Experience : 3-5 years of direct experience in power electronics engineering applying advanced control systems theory.
Control Systems : Strong knowledge of control system theory (system modeling and simulation) and hands-on troubleshooting skills at the control loop level.
Software & Hardware : Proficiency in developing control systems for MCU and DSPs using the C programming language.
Power Electronics : Solid understanding of advanced power electronics topologies, Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) schemes (sinusoidal and space vector), and power conditioning schemes (nonlinear, harmonic compensation).
Simulation Tools : Proficiency with power electronics modeling and simulation software (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, PSIM, LTspice).
Desired Skills (Assets)
Familiarity with TI DSPs for embedded control applications.
Experience with software version control tools (GitHub or GitLab).
Understanding of communication protocols (SPI, CAN, I2C, Modbus TCP / IP).
Familiarity with low-voltage distribution systems (single, split, and three-phase up to 600VAC).
Basic understanding of PCB design tools (e.g., Altium, PADS, KiCAD).
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to lead complicated design tasks to completion.
