Patrol Officer – Foundational (Indiana University)

IU POLICE DEPARTMENT (UA-PD-IUBLA) and Indiana University (IU) Public Safety oversee campus safety, maintaining IU's mission and standards. IU Public Safety directs the IU Police Department, University Environmental Health and Safety, and Emergency Management and Continuity with a team of about 300 staff on a 24 / 7 basis across campuses.

Responsibilities

  • Completes all university and Indiana state law required training and receives necessary certifications to independently perform the duties and responsibilities of Patrol Officer – Intermediate.
  • Assists experienced patrol officers and other public safety staff as needed to gain field experience.
  • Upon completion of training and attainment of certifications, demonstrates ability to independently patrol (solo patrol status).

Qualifications – Foundational

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
  • Licenses and Certificates

  • Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) certification eligible upon date of hire
  • Attain firearms qualification within 1 year from date of hire
  • Attain university required certifications in CPR, AED, Blood Borne Pathogens, IDACS, etc. within 1 year from date of hire
  • Complete all required annual law enforcement training and attain required certifications as prescribed by Indiana state law and the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board (ILETB) within 1 year from date of hire

  • Additional Information

    The role may require physical ability to perform essential functions, including movements and lifting as described in the posting. Candidates must be able to attend Indiana Law Enforcement Basic Training (15 weeks) within 1 year of hire and may need to commute to a training site for a 1-week initial session and weekly stays at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield, Indiana. Paid training is provided during the Academy.

    Fitness assessments are scheduled in multiple locations and dates. Exemption may apply for active Tier I law enforcement officers or LETB equivalent with proof of certification.

    Compensation (Foundational level) : Patrol Officer Entry – $71,739 annually; Patrol Officer (Intermediate) – $79,060; Patrol Officer (Mastery) – $86,715.
