Overview
I am looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Packaging Design Engineer with expertise in both primary and secondary packaging to support the development of innovative and sustainable packaging solutions for cosmetic and beauty products. This is a daily onsite role based in Irvine, CA, supporting a 24-month strategic initiative with one of the industry's leading brands.
Base pay range
$50.00 / hr - $70.00 / hr
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute the design and engineering of primary packaging (jars, bottles, pumps, droppers, compacts, etc.) and secondary packaging (cartons, sleeves, inserts, kits, shippers).
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, R&D, Operations, and Quality teams to align packaging with brand aesthetics, functional requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Translate marketing briefs and concept designs into manufacturable packaging solutions using CAD tools and prototyping methods.
- Work with external vendors and internal teams to validate materials, conduct line trials, and ensure DFM (Design for Manufacturing).
- Drive timelines and deliverables across development phases – concept, feasibility, design, testing, and production launch.
- Manage and maintain technical specifications, BOMs, and packaging documentation.
- Ensure packaging meets performance standards (drop test, compatibility, stability, etc.) and sustainability goals.
- Stay current with industry trends, materials, and innovations in cosmetic packaging.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field.3–7 years of experience in packaging engineering, preferably within the cosmetics, beauty, or personal care industry.Proven experience designing both primary and secondary packaging.Proficient in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, or similar).Strong knowledge of materials : plastics, glass, paperboard, foils, and eco-friendly alternatives.Hands-on experience working with suppliers and manufacturers.Excellent project management, problem-solving, and communication skills.Comfortable working in a fast-paced, creative environment.Must be able to work onsite daily in Irvine, CA.Experience in sustainability packaging initiatives.Knowledge of cosmetic packaging compliance (e.g., FDA, Prop 65, etc.).Experience with artwork review processes and packaging testing protocols.Seniority level
