Job Description Summary The GE TDPF Lab's Manufacturing Automation Engineer supports the design and development of the future-state of GE manufacturing processes. Reporting to the TDPF Technology Transition Leader, this role will be responsible for designing, physically building, prototyping, and testing of automated manufacturing systems, as well as the support and general upkeep of the TDPF Mfg. Automation Lab.
Responsibilities
- Support the conceptual development, technical design, and especially the rapid development and prototyping (aka "Trystorming") of automated manufacturing systems with a special focus on fabrication, weld assembly, and vision / inspection processes.
- Responsible for development of project timelines, budgets, and physical execution of proposed solutions for automated manufacturing challenges.
- Develop project proposals with technical statements of work, including potential project impacts and ROI if carried beyond proof-of-concept phase into full-production implementation.
- Perform the design, physical build, integration, and evaluation of proposed systems while providing regular progress updates to relevant stakeholders and teammates.
- Support the review of outside integrator / outside vendor proposals for outsourced automation solutions, especially for lab-proven and ready-to-scale automated manufacturing systems.
- Support the handoff of lab-proven processes to the manufacturing engineers and / or automation engineers of various other GE manufacturing sites, including but not limited to the design and physical construction of manufacturing cells, the writing of work instructions, the design of tooling, and standardized systems of tooling.
- Collaborate with other GE labs and industry experts as well as outside vendors to share and leverage best practices, expediting results in support of the GE TDPF technology maturation strategy.
- Provide training and mentorship to team members in automation and integration skillsets.
- Perform the technical execution of internally constructed automation and integration projects.
- Create or support the thorough documentation of automated systems and projects built including the creation of work instructions, troubleshooting guides, wiring diagrams, PM schedules, and related documents.
- Maintain and support the upkeep of the TDPF Manufacturing Automation Lab space.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience : Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Robotics and Automation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience and a minimum of 3 years of specific experience).Desired Characteristics
Minimum of 5 years of experience working in process automation and equipment.Integration experience, especially with FANUC robotics, Robotic CAM software such as RoboGuide, and FANUC-brand or FANUC-compatible 3rd party vision systems.Experience working in a manufacturing environment.Positive, can-do attitude with teamwork focus.Hands-on ready and excited to try and build new things.Strong creative thinking skills.Good communication skills for technical and cross-functional communications and collaborations.Willing to travel Domestic and / or International 10 - 15%.Benefits and Other Information
