Quality Manager - Railroad Manufacturing

Our client is a leading manufacturer of railroad products and components, recognized for its commitment to safety, reliability, and engineering excellence. The team is dedicated to delivering products that meet the highest quality and performance standards within the transportation and infrastructure industry. The Quality Manager will oversee all quality assurance and quality control activities across the manufacturing site. This individual will ensure compliance with industry standards (AAR, ISO 9001, ASME, etc.), customer specifications, and internal quality systems.

The Quality Manager - Railroad Manufacturing will be responsible for the following :

  • Lead and manage the Quality Department, including Quality Engineers, Inspectors, and Technicians.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the site's Quality Management System (QMS) in alignment with ISO 9001 and AAR (Association of American Railroads) requirements.
  • Oversee all inspection, testing, and auditing activities to ensure compliance with customer and regulatory specifications.
  • Drive root cause analysis and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for nonconformances and process deviations.
  • Partner with Engineering and Production teams to develop and maintain control plans, FMEAs, and inspection standards.
  • Support new product introductions and process validations to ensure quality is built into every stage of production.
  • Develop and report key quality metrics (PPM, scrap, rework, audit findings, etc.) and drive improvement initiatives.
  • Interface directly with customers and external auditors on quality issues, audits, and performance reviews.
  • Manage calibration, documentation control, and supplier quality programs.
  • Foster a culture of quality awareness, training, and accountability across all site functions.

The ideal Quality Manager - Railroad Manufacturing will have the following qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Management, or related field.
  • 5-10+ years of quality management experience in a heavy industrial or railroad manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of AAR, ISO 9001, and related quality system standards.
  • Proven track record leading audits and maintaining QMS certifications.
  • Experience with welding quality, NDT, and metallurgical inspection a plus.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with quality tools and software (SPC, Minitab, ERP / QMS platforms).
  • The successful Quality Manager - Railroad Manufacturing will be rewarded with the following :
