Description : Position Summary :
The CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) Programmer is responsible for programming and operating CMM equipment to ensure precise measurements and inspections of parts and components. This role involves interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to create measurement programs that ensure high-quality standards are met. The CMM Programmer will work closely with engineering, quality control, and production teams to develop and optimize measurement processes, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the accuracy and reliability of inspection data. One will act as a safeguard to confirm that high quality products meet and / or exceed customer requirements, ensuring that Phoenix Manufacturing, Inc.’s flight critical aerospace components are delivered to specifications. Essential Functions :

- Develop, modify, and optimize measurement programs for Hexagon CMMs using PC-DMIS software, ensuring accurate and reliable inspection of parts and components.
- Analyze, interpret, program and configure CMM Machines to measure a variety of part types, such as machined or cast components, adjusting for unique characteristics like material composition or surface finish based on engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD, including defining coordinate systems, measurement probes, tool settings, and reference points.
- Collaborate with the engineering and production team to understand critical dimensions, geometric tolerances (GD&T), and material properties, ensuring these factors are incorporated into the measurement program.
- Coordinate with maintenance staff or external service providers to resolve any issues that may impact measurement accuracy or machine uptime.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues related to part quality, measurement accuracy, or manufacturing constraints.
- Troubleshoot CMM hardware and software issues, including mechanical malfunctions, probe calibration, and program errors.
- Keep up to date with ongoing training in PC-DMIS updates, Hexagon CMM technologies, and best practices in quality control and measurement techniques. Ensure compliance with industry standards, specifications, and quality control requirements.
- Train and support employees on CMM operations and best practices, as needed.
- Regular verbal or written communication to internal stakeholders utilizing both electronic and analog systems.
- Utilization of office machines including copiers, scanners, phone systems, computers (including email), and other standard equipment.
- Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment with Manufacturing, Operations, and Production Control.
- Participate in the operation of and compliance with all safety, hazardous material handling, and disposal requirements in accordance with government regulations and company procedures.
- Maintain a clean work environment (including assigned storage and cleaning duties) in full compliance with all internal, customer and government regulations.
- Provide technical input in areas that involve process inspection methods and acceptance criteria for Engineering, Purchasing and Manufacturing, as required.
- Maintains positive team relationships with internal and external customers, as well as co-workers.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of CMM equipment, as needed.
- Assist with other Inspection Department functions, as required.
- Assist in internal, customer, and third-party audits, as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements :
Experience, Education and Qualifications :
High School Diploma or Equivalent Education required.Minimum of five (5) years of Manufacturing and Quality Control experience in Aerospace or other complex manufacturing industry with exacting / demanding requirements.Minimum of five (5) years of CMM Operator using Mitutoyo proficient with PC-DMIS, mCOSMO, or Calypso.Strong knowledge of GD&T, reading blueprints and the ability to interpret them accurately.Ability to adapt, prioritize, multi-task, and remain flexible to changes; responds with a sense of urgency.Experience using lean manufacturing principles and problem-solving methodology.Experience working in AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality systems in a manufacturing environment.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Excel) or related software.Proficient with ERP systems (Global Shop).Understanding of common industry specifications (material, coating / plating, NDT, etc.)Understanding of complex aerospace blueprints, technical charts, and specification sheets.Ability to read and follow detailed instructions, work from sketches, and use simple measuring instruments such as tape measures, micrometers, and vernier gauges.Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner.Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, internally and externally.
