Crestview Youth Academy in Crestview, Florida, is a secure Youth Academy serving males ages 13 to 17, delivering trauma-informed care across mental health and substance abuse needs. The program combines clinical therapy, education, restorative justice, therapeutic recreation, and life skills training. Youth typically remain in care based on individualized goals, participating in individual, family, and group therapy; victim impact awareness; vocational and pre-vocational preparation; and enrichment activities such as art, music, and recreation. Small group living units and licensed dietitian-managed meals support emotional stabilization and reintegration planning.

Key Responsibilities :

Provides direction, direct service and supervision of the facility medical department. Ensures that the facility is compliant with all guidelines required by customer and governmental entities / agencies. Through the implementation of policies, ensures all components of medication management, sick call and documentation are conducted in accordance with appropriate guidelines required by the customer and governmental entities / agencies. Monitors, evaluates and determines appropriate levels of care, assures delivery of health care needs and quality of service.

  • Administers resident medications prescribed by physician. Ensures that an effective system is provided to review medication oversight and ensure completion of all documentation and forms related to medication.
  • Assures that nursing department completes all required admission and release procedures and documents in a timely manner to include facility entry screening, health related history and physical assessment.
  • Completes and submits statistical reporting as required.
  • Carries out clerical and administrative assignments to support resident care and department operations.
  • Ensures youth immunizations are done and documented as required.
  • Prepares and presents training programs to staff in areas including, but not limited to, medication administration, side effects, nuisance disease (scabies, ringworm, etc.) hepatitis A and B, universal precautions, AIDS, seizures, and other health related issues impacting upon the delivery of services.
  • Collaborate with leadership and performance improvement activities by conducting periodic reviews to ensure compliance with YOI policy and agency requirements.
  • Other Duties Include :

  • Maintain a high standard of role model behavior for youth.
  • Participate in training and development activities as required and develop required budgets.
  • Report any acts, incidents or conditions that reflect the possibility of inappropriate youth-to-youth or staff-to-youth relationships.
  • Report any use of physical force and all unusual incidents per guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
  • Requirements :

    Education : Must have a license as a professional Registered Nurse which shall have included clinical nursing, practice in nursing supervision, nursing education, nursing management or public health nursing.

    Experience : Three years experience as a professional RN

    Skills : A sound understanding of group leadership, group dynamics, and experiential education. Records management and Medicaid processes preferred. Advanced oral and written communication skills.

    Physical Demands : Must be in good physical health and emotionally stable. Must be able to move about the property. Must be able to participate in youth activities. Must be able to transport youth or staff. Must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state and to the extent that data is attainable under the law. Must be able to pass PAR evaluation of physical techniques and written certification exam.

    Other : Must maintain an appropriate and valid state drivers license. Must meet state criminal background check requirements and pre-employment screening.
