Job Summary

This position is responsible for coordinating and supervising the work of personnel engaged in the maintenance of the landscapes of various assigned City facilities and the City's rights-of-way. The position reports to the Landscape and Sustainability Division Manager.

Essential Job Functions

  • Coordinates landscape maintenance and installation activities at City facilities and rights-of-way.
  • Oversees quality control of landscape and grounds maintenance operations of City facilities and rights-of-way.
  • Performs right-of-way maintenance duties.
  • Assist in the development of annual budgets and monitors expenditures.
  • Exercises direct supervision over assigned personnel.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

High school diploma; three (3) to five (5) years' experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Qualifications

  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a State Certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License within 1 to 2 years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License for the type of vehicle or equipment operated within one year of employment.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local policies and regulations.
  • Knowledge of the methods, principles, techniques, equipment, tools, and practices of right-of-way maintenance.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety regulations, protocols, principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance techniques as related to division equipment and vehicles.
  • Knowledge of the geography and road system of the City.
  • Knowledge of local government operations, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other similar programs.
  • Skill in the training and supervision of personnel.
  • Skill in operating a variety of equipment and tools related to right-of-way maintenance activities.
  • Skill in the application of pesticides and herbicides.
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving.
  • Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to meet and deal with employees and the public in an effective and courteous manner.
  • Ability to get along with others, and work effectively with the public and co-workers.
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Ability to work independently, work well with others, and manage time effectively.
  • Physical Demands

    The work is light work, which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee uses tools or equipment requiring manual dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.

    Work Environment

    The work is typically performed in an office and various outdoor environments, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
