Position Purpose :
The Data Science Manager is responsible for leading a team of data scientists (individual contributors), ensuring that their efforts drive business profitability, increased efficiencies and improved customer experience. This role leads overall programs, maximizing resources, partnering with project teams and business partners, and supports problem solving efforts. Data Science Managers provide leadership, mentoring, and coaching to team members, along with supporting their development of business and technical skills.
This team works with forecasting possible outcomes of price and promotion actions at different levels, including AI solutions, and would need to be proficient in deep learning and forecasting techniques.
As a Data Science Manager, you will provide executive summaries to all levels of the organization and leverage your business knowledge and network to identify opportunities to leverage data science solutions. This role is expected to collaborate with other Data Science Managers across the organization for aligning strategies and effectively managing talent. These responsibilities require effective communication skills, building relationships and partnerships, and leveraging business proficiency to solutions and recommendations.
Key Responsibilities :
40% People Management & Team Leadership - Provide leadership, mentorship and coaching to Data Scientists; Attract, retain and develop top talent; Support team in development of business knowledge and technical skills; Manage resources effectively; Foster collaboration with team members; Drive team's results
25% Project Management - Prioritize and assign projects; Manage programs for the team; Collaborate with program managers and business partners; Provide executive updates; Serve as escalation point
20% Technical Exploration & Development - Seek further knowledge on key developments; Participate in continuous improvement; Ensure best practices
15% Strategy & Business Development - Leverage business knowledge and relationships; Develop trust and collaboration; Ensure alignment with IT support model; Collaborate with other data science managers
Direct Manager / Direct Reports :
This position typically reports to Senior Manager or above
This position has Direct Reports & manages programs
Travel Requirements :
Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.
Physical Requirements :
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Working Conditions :
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications :
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience taking a deep learning solution from end to end
Previous people or project team management experience
9+ years of experience in business intelligence and analytics
Expertise in predictive modeling, data mining and data analysis
Mastery running queries against data
Proficient with data visualization software
Mastery utilizing statistical techniques
Proficient in Prescriptive Modeling
Experience managing and growing team members
Minimum Education :
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
