- About the Team DoorDash Labs is the innovation hub of DoorDash, shaping the future of last-mile logistics. Within Labs, the Concept Engineering team turns bold ideas into tangible prototypes. We live at the intersection of imagination and engineering, rapidly exploring, defining, and validating early-stage concepts. Our work bridges the gap between "what if" and "what works," enabling downstream teams to scale the solutions that will power DoorDash's next generation of autonomous platforms. About the Role As a Concept Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll invent, prototype, and validate new mechanical systems that push the boundaries of delivery automation. You'll work hands-on-from CAD and simulation to shop-floor builds-to rapidly prove what's possible. Your work won't just stay in the lab : the concepts you create will influence DoorDash's future platforms at scale. You will report into the Head of Concept Engineering on our Concept Engineering team in our DoorDash Labs organization. You're excited about this opportunity because you will Invent, prototype, and test mechanical systems, structures, and mechanisms including CAD modeling and documentation. Rapidly determine if an idea is technically viable within business constraints. Collaborate closely with cross-functional production teams including electrical, software, and systems engineers to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs. Produce prototypes, simulations, and proof-of-concept builds to test concepts and ultimately drive major architectural decisions. We're excited about you because Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. 5+ years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience, preferably in robotics, aerospace, automotive, or other high volume and safety critical environments. You build. You know your way around a shop and are very capable in it. Strong proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, or equivalent) and drawing standards like GD&T. Deep understanding of materials, fasteners, tolerancing, and thermal / structural considerations. Proficiency with FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, SolidWorks Simulation) and experience applying analysis to inform designs. Experience taking products from concept to production in fast-paced, high-ownership environments. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications Hardware shipped at scale in safety-critical applications. A personal portfolio of side projects that showcase your engineering passion. A love for craftsmanship and elegant design. Thriving in high-integrity, high-ownership, and high-impact environments. Why You'll Love Working Here Impact : Your prototypes will directly shape the future of DoorDash's autonomous platforms. Visibility : Work alongside senior leaders in a high-profile innovation group. Collaboration : Partner with talented cross-functional engineers solving cutting-edge robotics challenges. Growth : Build skills across the entire product lifecycle-from idea to scaled system.
