Must-Have :

• Preference for 2-3 years of Emergency Department experience

Description :

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Provides direct and indirect patient care in the emergency care setting.

Demonstrates initiative, flexibility, and responsibility indicative of professional expectations with minimal supervision.

Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs.

Communicates with Emergency Department physicians about changes in patient status, symptomatology, and results of diagnostic studies.

Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.

Demonstrates competency in providing direct patient care and evaluating outcomes.

Consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes to ensure optimal patient care.

Ability to perform head-to-toe assessments on all patients, including pediatric, geriatric, and general patient populations.

Assesses and reassesses pain and pain management techniques utilized.

Educates patients and families regarding pain management.

Monitors hemodynamic status of patients and interprets results accurately.

Knowledgeable in cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias, and treats appropriately.

Accurately assigns triage categories and maintains documentation.

Documents in-depth nursing histories with a 100% completion rate.

Maintains accurate and continuous nursing documentation, including patient histories, conditions, treatments, and assessment of changes.

Treats patients and families with respect and dignity.

Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious / spiritual needs of patients and families.

Functions as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.

Knowledgeable of principles of growth and development over the lifespan.

Interacts professionally with patients and families, involving them in the formation of the plan of care.

Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates the effectiveness of learning.

Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age and clinical condition.

Prepares, hangs, monitors, and discontinues IV fluids.

Maintains established departmental policies, procedures, and safety standards.

Creates a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.

Assists in cost containment through appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.

Cooperates with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives and maintain good employee relations.

Assists physicians with procedures in the Emergency Department.

Assists in the orientation of new employees.

Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and in-service meetings.

Engages in other related duties as assigned.

Assists in implementing core measures.

Ensures professional appearance and conduct at all times.

Maintains an excellent attendance record and reports to work on time.

Wears appropriate clothing for job functions.

Maintains good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with all stakeholders.

Completes annual educational requirements.

Represents the organization positively and professionally.

Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.

Complies with regulatory requirements.

Wears identification while on duty and uses computerized punch time systems correctly.

Attends annual reviews and departmental in-services as scheduled.

Reads and returns staff meeting minutes.

Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.

Communicates the organization's mission, vision, and values, along with the annual plan of care / service for the department.

Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Basic computer knowledge is a requirement.

Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands repetitively.

Occasionally required to sit while performing duties.

Must be able to hear alarms, client calls, and instructions.

Regularly lifts and / or moves up to 10 pounds, frequently lifts and / or moves up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lifts and / or moves more than 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to identify colors and adjust focus.
