Description :
50-mile radius rule applies.
Unit details include fast-track area staffed with Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants and Registered Nurses.
Fast track consists of 5 beds with no LPNs.
The facility has 34 beds in the main ER and 4 trauma bays.
Travelers are allowed to work in the trauma bays.
There are 2 rooms for psych patients available.
The emergency department treats a high volume of patients daily.
Expect a busy, high-acuity, and fast-paced environment.
BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications are required; TNCC certification is preferred.
Staffing ratios are 1 : 4 in the main ER and 1 : 5 in the fast track area.
Up to 10 Registered Nurses staff the day shift, with close to 12 on evening shifts.
A charge nurse is available 24 / 7 and does not carry a patient assignment.
Minimum staffing includes one nurse aide and one EMT or two paramedics.
Security personnel are present in the emergency department entrance and provide 1 : 1 care for psych patients.
Weekend requirements include working five weekend night shifts in a four-week schedule.
Registered Nurses wear navy blue scrubs.
Monitoring is conducted through a central station.
Ventilation equipment includes Draeger and Respironics systems.
Respiratory therapy staff are available 24 / 7, with a quick response time.
Registered Nurses draw their own labs, with some techs trained in lab draws.
RN shifts follow a 12-hour schedule, with no self-scheduling.
Floating outside of the emergency department is not permitted.
The first day includes a general hospital orientation followed by time in the emergency department.
The population served includes a large geriatric demographic with significant cases of COPD and cardiovascular conditions.
Nurses must accompany critical patients during transports to other units within the facility.
Charting is performed using an electronic health record system.
Nursing staff must submit their licenses for validation.
The position requires a high level of flexibility to meet the needs of the unit.
