South Mountain Community College (SMCC) reflects the diversity of the surrounding community, a rich mix of rural, urban, and suburban neighborhoods. Many of our students arrive from Phoenix, Laveen, Tempe, Guadalupe, and the surrounding area to attend classes at the main campus or our offsite facility in Guadalupe; we also offer evening courses in Laveen at Betty Fairfax High School.

Of the approximately 5,000 students enrolled at SMCC nearly 70 percent were first-generation college students and 48 percent intended to transfer to a university to further their education. Job Summary

This position teaches a range of Mathematics courses from Arithmetic through Calculus. This position requires the use of innovative teaching methods and appropriate technology in the instruction of Mathematics in varying modalities of delivery. Works with diverse student populations. Provides leadership in Mathematics at the departmental, collegiate, and district level.

A graduate degree is required. A faculty may qualify with any of the following :

Course Subjects

MAT

Course Titles and Keywords

Mathematics, probability, statistics, applied mathematics, actuarial science, operations research, decision sciences, mathematics education, physics, engineering, or computer science courses with significant mathematical content.

Desired Qualifications

A- Four years teaching experience in the high school, community college level, or university level

B- Evidence of significant professional growth in Mathematics Education within the last five years

C- Experience using active learning strategies in the classroom

D- Experience with technology and its uses in the teaching of mathematics

E- Experience teaching a diverse student population

Special Working Conditions

May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs.

May be required to work evenings and weekends for special events.
