Location : New York City.

About the job

Advantra is partnering with a Seed stage legal tech startup in New York City to hire a Founding Product Engineer to build and scale the core product across frontend and backend systems.

About the role

You will design and implement full-stack features that support document production and data workflows. You will ship high-impact updates, improve performance, and collaborate closely with founders, engineers, and customers. Your work will directly shape the user experience and the technical direction of the product.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain frontend components using Next.js, React, and Tailwind.
Implement backend services and APIs using Python.
Optimize web performance and improve user experience across the product.
Contribute to infrastructure management with Terraform, Kubernetes, and Postgres.
Ship product updates daily / weekly with strong focus on quality.
Collaborate with the team and customers to gather feedback and inform product decisions.
Participate in code reviews and maintain high coding standards.
Apply product and design sense to enhance features and workflows.
Take ownership of projects from conception to delivery.

Core requirements

3+ years of full-stack development experience in startups or fast-moving teams.

Strong expertise with Next.js, React, and Tailwind for frontend development.

Experience with Python for backend / API development.

Familiarity with Terraform, Kubernetes, and Postgres for infrastructure and data management.

Proven ability to ship features quickly and iterate based on feedback.

Experience optimizing web performance and improving UX.

Strong product and design sense demonstrated in shipped projects.

Demonstrated ownership of projects with attention to detail.

Ability to collaborate closely with technical leadership and founders.

Experience with enterprise-grade or large-scale applications is a plus.

Nice to have

Experience with AI or data-intensive systems.

Knowledge of CI / CD pipelines for full-stack applications.

Background in legal tech or document automation tools.

Experience building product features from ideation to production.

Familiarity with performance monitoring and observability tools.
