The Opportunity : We are searching for a professional, organized and dependable Human Resource Consultant to be the primary point of contact for the DRS Human Resources Office. You will perform first-level professional duties and assignments that support a variety of human resource program areas, including but not limited to recruitment, onboarding, classification, training, team member relations, and reasonable accommodation.

Some of what you'll do includes :

  • Responding to inquiries from team members, leaders and the public regarding human resources-related procedures, guidelines, policies, and federal and state employment laws.
  • Performing first-level talent acquisition responsibilities in support of the DRS Recruiter, including screening applications, coordinating scheduling of interviews with candidates, and other assigned duties.
  • Coordinating onboarding activities for new DRS team members, including preparing welcome packets, scheduling and coordinating new employee orientation, and working with new team leaders in welcoming their new team members to the agency.
  • Coordinating new employee orientation, including scheduling presenters, sending information to new team members and their leaders regarding the orientation schedule, and ensuring technology is ready and working for the event.
  • Applying knowledge of policies, rules and laws to answer first-level questions from new team members.
  • Providing complex and confidential support to the Human Resources Director, including documenting and monitoring the assignment of deliverables to HR team members and progress in meeting established deadlines; reviewing, analyzing and formatting reports, presentations, documents and correspondence; and managing the HR Director's calendar as needed.

NOTE : After successful completion of the probation or trial service period and effectively demonstrating the ability to successfully perform work independently, you may be eligible to telework up to two days per week, at the discretion of the Human Resources Director and with a telework agreement in place. The ability to work remotely is dependent on the nature of the tasks and projects assigned and the presence of a remote work environment that is safe and has an appropriate level of reliable connectivity. You must live within a reasonable commuting distance (less than 50 straight-line miles) to the DRS building in Tumwater, WA, and must be willing and able to adjust your telework schedule, whenever necessary, to complete work assignments, attend mandatory meetings, trainings, etc., at the DRS facility.

What we're looking for (required qualifications) :

  • Demonstrated experience providing para-professional support to a manager, preferably in a human resource office environment; and
  • Working knowledge of federal and state laws related to human resource program areas.
  • This experience is typically gained through two (2) years of professional experience. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Administration or closely allied field may substitute for one (1) year of experience. Experience can be gained through various combinations of professional employment and volunteer / personal experience. Experience may be concurrent.

    In addition to the above, you must have the following :

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and SharePoint (version 2016 or newer);
