Description :
This position is for a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse.
The nurse will be expected to float to Postpartum on occasion and provide care for both the infant and the mother.
The unit consists of 16 labor rooms and 9 antepartum rooms.
There are 3 operating room suites for cesarean sections and a 7-bed triage unit for assessing patients with pregnancy complaints.
A typical month can see up to 400 births.
The recommended nurse-to-patient ratio follows AWHONN guidelines with 1 : 1-2 for laboring patients and 1 : 2-3 for antepartum patients.
RNs are required to titrate drips such as Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and pain medications.
There is a charge nurse on both shifts, and the charge nurse takes an assignment.
The unit has 2 obstetrical technicians per shift to assist.
An OB / neonatologist is in-house 24 / 7 along with residents and supervising MDs.
CRNAs and respiratory therapists are also available on the unit at all times.
RNs will need to troubleshoot but not perform advanced tasks with respiratory equipment.
Telemetry monitors are used in recovery after a cesarean section.
Employees work 0630-1900 or 1830-0700 shifts, with every third weekend required, though it may increase based on unit needs.
Holidays require coverage of one major and one minor holiday.
RNs may occasionally float to assist within the facility as a sitter.
Surgical scrubs will be provided.
Successful candidates should demonstrate teamwork, a positive attitude, flexibility, a willingness to learn, and an eagerness to face new challenges.
Time-off requests must be limited to 7 days or less at the beginning of the contract.
Additional time-off requests will not be approved once submitted.
The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment.
Charting will be conducted using an electronic medical record system.
A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required for this position.
This role requires providing care in an acute setting and adherence to safety protocols and guidelines.
